How Can Professional Resume Writing Education Help You?
How Can Professional Resume Writing Education Help You?Professional resume writing education is a valuable resource when it comes to resumes. There are lots of people who have hired professionals to do the job for them, but they don't know much about how it's done. If you are going to put together a professional resume for your new job, it will be a lot better if you can learn from those who are professionals. It will also make it easier for you to get the job that you are aiming for if you can learn from the best. The first thing that you need to do before you start sending out resumes is to gather a bunch of different resume samples. You will want to find some sample documents that you can use as a basis for your own work. That way, you won't end up throwing away any potential resumes that you get sent by those who aren't professional.Once you have gathered a bunch of sample documents and ready to begin work on your own work, you are going to need to invest some time into learning s ome resume writing education. After all, this is what you'll be using in the professional resume that you will be sending out to prospective employers. If you can't even write one well, then you can forget about getting hired. This means that you are going to need to learn how to get good at what you are doing, and how to utilize the skills that you have learned in the workplace to land a job. Although you won't have the right to choose what the company does, you can take advantage of this time to hone your skills. No matter what kind of resume you send out, you are going to need to hone your skills. The next step to getting started is to have a plan of attack. You are going to need to know where you are going to begin and how you will move forward. Most people go into this process with the belief that they can just do a lot of research, write the resume, and send it out and get the job. What most people don't realize is that without solid professional resume writing education, this m ay not be realistic. You will want to show employers that you are serious about getting hired for a new job and they should be able to see this. If you are not showing them that you can provide a great resume, then they are going to assume that you are not serious about your future and that you are just trying to take advantage of the fact that you have a great resume that was written by professionals. This could end up costing you a job because employers will think that you are just using your resume to get ahead and get hired, rather than actually showing them that you can deliver what they need from you.To get started, it is important that you spend the time that it takes to get professional resume writing education. This will help you not only get ahead of the competition, but it will also ensure that you can actually get hired. You can do this by finding the right resource that will show you how to learn how to write an amazing resume that will stand out in the crowd.

Middle Class Families Struggle Unpredictable Work, Expenses
Middle Class Families Struggle Unpredictable Work, Expenses How hard is it for Americans to make ends meet nowadays? Two researchers who tracked every dollar made and spent by 235 households say that itâs incredibly common for unpredictable work hours and surprise expenses to wreak havoc on low- and middle-class Americans. Jonathan Morduch, a professor of public policy and economics at NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, and Rachel Schneider, senior vice president at the Center for Financial Services Innovation, focused their research on households with at least one person working and found that they experienced an average of five months per year with either a spike or dip in their finances. A spike or dip was defined as months in which a householdâs income was either 25 percent more or 25 percent less than their average. âIn other words, incomes were far from average almost half of the time,â they wrote in an Harvard Business Review article. âIncome volatility was more extreme for poorer families, but middle class families felt it too.â Their findings are being published in a new book, The Financial Diaries: How American Families Cope in a World of Uncertainty. The households the authors chose had at least one worker, and none were among the poorest or richest in their communities. A wide range of demographics was chosen, including rural, urban, white, black, Hispanic, Asian, recent immigrants, and families that have been in the U.S. for generations. Housing was by far the greatest expense, with impoverished families paying 40 percent on average for shelter. The Financial Diaries One of the biggest problems, the authors found, was that as a result of changes in the labor market, predictable work hours have become more scarce. As more workers depend on income from commissions, tips, and hourly work with fluctuating schedules, income volatility has increased, the researchers found. Half of the volatility they tracked was due to variation in the size of paychecks within the same job. All workers hope to make more money. But a supplemental survey showed that the households at the center of the researchersâ work were much more concerned about income stability than moving to a higher income bracket. The Financial Diaries Nearly 40 percent of families said they didnât personally have the financial means for a $500 financial emergency, and that they would have to depend on friends or family to come up with the money. The Financial Diaries âMany people who are middle class nevertheless have the experience of being poor over the course of the year,â Schneider told CBS News. They worry regularly about ânot being able to afford their groceries, having to think about putting gas in the car, having to think about whether to cancel their cable. When you work full time and still have that experience, it feels unfair.â âFamilies bear far more economic risk than they have in the past,â the researchers write. âTheir jobs deliver less-steady income, even when they are full-time. They have less room between their incomes and their spending needs, and less ability to accumulate reserves. And employers and government do less to buffer individual families from the resulting ups and downs.â In a followup interview, Morduch said policymakers need to do a better job of shielding workers from the ups and downs of their own jobs. âWe see again and again, that families have much more risk on their shoulders,â he said. Lawmakers have pushed for employers to offer more predictable hours for workers. Some businesses have made changes to their on-call scheduling in recent years, so that workers arenât caught off guard as much by surprise work schedules. But Morduch said more work on this front is needed. He also called for greater financial market protections, in the form of payday lending and credit card debt protection reforms. American households will only become more vulnerable if the threats to weaken the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau are carried out, he said. Weâve included affiliate links in this article. From Pineapples to Private Equity How IBM Is Putting Blockchain Technology Everywhere
From Pineapples to Private Equity How IBM Is Putting Blockchain Technology EverywhereFrom Pineapples to Private Equity How IBM Is Putting Blockchain Technology EverywhereThis must have been what it felt like when the internet was invented You cant stop hearing about it. And that it, in this instance, is blockchain. If you believe the blogs (and the tweets), then blockchain is a technology with the power to change businesses everywhere, and often for the better. To learn more, we spoke with Donna Dillenberger, an expert from blockchain industry leader IBM. An IBM Fellow working on blockchain security, scalability, and artificial intelligence, Dillenberger was the perfect person to give us the lowdown on what blockchain really is and how the New York-based tech giant is deploying it to make people safer, businesses better, and data sharing smarter. What is blockchain?Blockchain is a software that enables different groups to share information with each other in a trustworthy way, says Dill enberger.Essentially, a blockchain is a shared ledger kept between parties so that recordkeeping is decentralized and immutable. At first glance, this might not appear to be a game-changing technologyit may even seem to be something the internet already doesbut that couldnt be farther from the truth. Before blockchain, records of things like dates and purchases between two or more parties would be stored individually or accessed through a single database controlled by an individual company or organization. For example, yur bank account balance is something that you dont store locally (unless you keep a spreadsheet or note of how much you have). You instead access it by logging in to your banks database. The only entity that can change that ledger is the bank. Even when you make a deposit or spend money, the banks technology totenstill has the final say on what actually happens to that number (your balance).Blockchain flips that method entirely on its head. Instead, everyone involved in the transaction has access to a shared ledger, where the data on the ledger has multiple copies. Each copy of the data can be hosted in different organizations and/or provided as a cloud service. Once data is written to the ledger, the records are bundled together using cryptography, and replicated across all the copies, providing decentralized immutability. How is IBM using blockchain technology?Theres an incredibly wide usage of blockchain technology. For example, the ability to track and maintain data records is already hugely important in e-commerce. But now it can be far more secure and widespread. Information can be sharedhassle- free, with trustacross businesses, borders, and regulatory lines. It can be difficult to understand just what this means without examples. In that respect, Dillenberger and IBM did not disappoint. In our Food Trust blockchain, provenance information about produce or the things we eat, she says. For example, for mangoes or oranges, we know what farm it came from and which distributions centers it went to. And we know the type of inspection certificates those centers had and how they were moved across locations. Why is that such a big deal? According to Dillenberger, Before the blockchain it took weeks to discover the source of contaminated produce. But now with the Food Trust blockchain, it only takes seconds. And when you reduce the time it takes to find out where the food comes fromfrom days and weeks to secondsyou can reduce the impact of a food contamination problem and isolate it more quickly to help a farm, a population, and a retailer. That translates into fewer people sick and fewer farms and stores hurt by supply problems. It even means less wasted food. The same goes for manufactured products, like cars or other machines, Dillenberger explains. You know if theres a faulty part like a defective tire or damaged bolt, you know where it came from, what machine tooled it, and which retail stores it went to and how to quickly r emedy it.This, too, can mean fewer accidents or deaths and more economically efficient recall processes. But even these incredibly wide uses are not enough for IBM. It also helps with minerals such as diamonds. It allows us to know if a diamond has been mined in a way thats ecologically sound and that it wasnt stolen from its native country. That helps the consumer and the diamond trade, she says.IBM has even gone so far as to use the technology to increase the speed and security of banking transactions, incorporating this technology into the private equity ledgers of finance giant Northern Trust. And there you have it. As Dillenberger noted, those uses are just the beginning. Online shopping and recordkeeping can be made significantly more efficient and secure with the use of blockchain. The best part? There are certainly uses for it that have yet to be discovered or imagined. Are you the next great blockchain pioneer? Learn more about IBM on WayUp right now

The Negotiating Advice You Might Be Forgetting
The Negotiating Advice You Might Be Forgetting Want more ???????What can you do if you find out youre a victim of the GenderPayGap? Refinery29 shares 5 negotiating tips for when you think youre underpaid. DiversityAndInclusion CareerAdvice PTFcommunity??https//r29.co/339suxa One of the biggest challenges in almost all industries today is achieving gender parity. Gender diversity provides huge benefits in the workplace. pWhile some industries have made significant advancements in gender diversity, some industries lag further behind... and the construction industry is well-known for being in the latter category. If someone says, construction workers, youll likely picture a group of men in yellow hard hats analyzing an architects plans or laying bricks on top of a scaffold. And men at work signs only help to reinforce this image.pThis stereotype is rooted in reality. When was the last time you actually spotted a woman on a construction site? Or hired a female plumber or carpenter? Your answer is most likely never. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statisticsreports that only 3.4% of the total of 8.3 million construction employees are women.pBut the construction industry has a lot more to offer than steel-toed boots and hard hats, and it needs women to help advance the industry in this era of rapid change. Here are 5 reasons why women joining the workforce or looking to make a pivot should consider a career in construction.h21. Fuel Innovation/h2pNot only is diversity the socially and morally right thing to do, but it is also actually an excellent business strategy. pResearch presented in the Harvard Business Reviewshows that diverse teams develop more innovative ideas. This is further supported by a study conducted by Gallupon the performance of gender-diverse teams versus single-gender teams, which found that the difference in backgrounds and perspectives led to better business performance and problem-solving. h22. Capitali ze on Demand/h2pThe construction industry is currently experiencing a labor shortage. The industry itself is booming and projected to be one of the fastest-growing industries, with total spending projected to exceed $1.45 trillion in 2023/a. However, most construction companies are unable to meet the rising demand. pAccording to the Associated General Contractors of America/a, more than 80% of contractors are experiencing difficulties filling hourly craft positions that represent the bulk of the construction workforce.pAnd demand isnt limited to individual contributor roles. Given the industry boom, there are a number of open stable and high-paying roles (any project managers out there?) waiting for the right candidateh23. Leadership Opportunities/h2pAccording to the Bureau of Labor Statistics/a, women compose only 7.7% of the total 1 million managerial positions in construction.br/pBut given the highly collaborative nature of construction work, more women in leadership roles would help drive innovation and enhance productivity.Furthermore, as a woman in construction in a leadership position, youd have the unique opportunity to drive change for the industry and make it a more attractive option for other women.h24. High-Income Potential/h2pSalaries for many skilled positions in construction are on the rise, making a construction career a prime choice for women looking for a high-paying job,pThe 2018 Construction Craft Salary Surveyconducted by the National Center for Construction Education and Research revealed that salaries for many skilled craft areas are increasing. Project managers and project supervisors topped the list at $92,523 and $88,355, respectively. The next set of highest-paying jobs include those of combo welders ($71,067), instrumentierung technicians ($70,080), pipe welders ($69,222), power line workers ($68,262) and industrial electricians ($67,269). Of the 32 categories of workers in the survey, 19 positions earned an average salary of $60,00 0 or higher.h25. Sense of accomplishment/h2p The construction industry can give employees a unique sense of achievement. Yes, the job is stressful and the work can be demanding, but nothing beats the feeling of being able to build something from the ground up. pHow many professionals in other industries can point at a school, a hospital, or a skyscraper and say I helped build that?pThe construction industry has a long way to go in combating gender bias and supporting women in the workforce, but given the current demand for workers, theres no better time to pick up a sledgehammer (figurative or literal) and smash the gender stereotypes plaguing the construction industry.

Why Management Is a Career and Leadership Is a Calling
Why Management Is a Career and Leadership Is a CallingWhy Management Is a Career and Leadership Is a CallingAsk anyone, and theyll tell you. Theres a difference between managers and leaders. Ask them what that difference is, and they may have a bit mora difficulty providing a clear answer. Suddenly the words become amorphous and undefined. Somehow leadership is an intangible - a charismatic component that some people have and others simply dont. Thats why, according to the ubiquitous they, it is such a rarity. We disagree with this perspective. Career Versus Calling The difference between being a manager and being a leader is simple Management is a career. Leadership is a calling. You dont have to be tall, well-spoken and good looking to be a successful leader. You dont have to have that special something to fulfill the leadership role. What you have to have are clearly defined convictions - and, more importantly, the courage of your convictions to see them manifest into reality. Only when you understand your role as guide and steward based on your own most deeply held truths can you move from manager to leader. The Power of Trust Whether the group you oversee is called employees, associates, co-workers, teammates or anything else, what they are looking for is someone in whom they can place their trust. Someone they know is working for the greater good - for them and the organization. Theyre looking for someone not only that they can - but that they want to - follow. Because it is only when you have followers -people who have placed their trust in you - that you know you have moved into that leadership role. And the way you see it is that your organization is transcending all previous quality, productivity, innovation, and revenue achievements. Youre operating at such a high level of efficiency that youre giving budget back to the corporation - and youre still beating your goals. Youre achieving what you always dreamed could be achieved. And not only th at, but its easier than you thought. Because youre a leader. Because the classic command and control management model - which, contrary to popular belief still applies even in our most progressive 21st-century companies - is no longer in play. Sure, controls are in place. Sure, youre solving problems that arise. But its not just you alone. You have the people in whom youve put your trust - and who have happily and safely reciprocated - to help you create organizational success. First Steps Where to abflug? Begin by discovering exactly what your convictions are. Clarify and codify for yourself what you believe in. Then, take a nice step back and see how those beliefs are playing out in the organization as it stands today. Dont start with an organizational assessment based on the numbers or your opinions about others. It is not about them. It is all about you. Ask yourself What is important to me? What are my values, beliefs, ethics? How am I demonstrating those values, beliefs, an d ethics every day?Is the larger organization designed to support my values, beliefs, and ethics?Where are the disconnects within my immediate organization and for myself with the larger enterprise? What can I do to change how I behave with my immediate organization to demonstrate my belief in them? What additional assistance do my employees need to succeed V and how can I ensure that they get everything they need and more to create personal and organizational success? Realistically, youll go through this process not once, but many, many times. It is a periodic reality and cross-check to see how youre doing in your own context and, as you begin making changes, in the larger context. Because, while you can and should expect yourself and your immediate organization to make changes, you cannot - and should not - expect the larger organization to respond or follow suit immediately. It is a personal journey designed to assist you in being more - and helping those whose lives you touch to be more. Give the organization time. Itll get there. Its just a little bit slow. Whats Next? As you identify your convictions and begin aligning your behaviors with those convictions, you are going to need to take steps to build a collaborative culture based on where youre going. To do that, seek input from your employees about what they need and what their dreams are for their jobs and the larger organization. (They have them, you know). Talk to internal and external customers and suppliers about their needs. Find out what more and what else you can be and do to create success. Enroll and engage in conversation and communication. Sit back. Listen. Take in as much as you can. Look for trends and themes. Find out where the possibilities are - the connects and disconnects that you can effect. Be more. Be all those things you always believed about yourself - and usually bring to the rest of your life. Leaders arent made or born. Leadership is a choice - a belief in and commitment t o everything that is good and noble within you. Be a leader. Leslie L. Kossoff is a leading organizational thinker and consultant.
